IMPORTANT NEWS:
Hello kil.n.it Community!
Thank you to everyone for supporting us through 2020! As we all know, it has been a year of uncertainty and change, but thanks to you we have been able to stay open and keep making ceramics!
As we look forward to 2021 and beyond, we are planning to consolidate the changes that have taken place here at the studio, and implement a new membership program that will help us to move forwards in an organised way.
From January 4, 2021 Kil.n.it will require all people using its firing service to undergo an induction and sign up as a member. To do this, there will be a $30 induction fee and $70 annual membership fee. The induction itself will take place at Kilnit with one of our staff. You will learn the processes that take place here and the safety regulations we have to adhere to. It is important for all of our service users to understand the workings of the studio, and it will also give our staff a better opportunity for organisation of our service users and connection to your practice and goals in ceramics! Even if you do not use kil.n.it’s workshop facilities, it is a requirement of our new policy to undergo the induction and membership process.
Thank you for helping Kil.n.it as we move into 2021, we look forward to seeing all the ceramics you make next year!

Firing clay for a complete novice:
All clay will go through at least two firings
1st Firing - 'Bisque' - All different clay types (terracotta, earthenware, mid-fire, stoneware, porcelain) will be fired in this firing - Essential before the glaze firing (we do not single/once fire).
2nd Firing - 'Glaze' - It is important to know what clay type you have for this firing. Check the packet for glaze temperature. This will determine what temperature glaze you will put on the piece and what temperature glaze firing you will book. The temperature of the glaze (also found on its packet) must fit with the range of the glaze temperature on the clay packet. This is very important
If you have any trouble with this please do not hesitate to contact us otherwise please book the bisque and correct glaze firing temperature for your clay and glaze below.
NO BRT (BUFF RAKU TRACHYTE) CLAY TO BE FIRED IN ANY KILNS. FOR ALTERNATIVES SEE OUR CLAY PURCHASE PAGE
